"Indian literature is generally acknowledged, but not wholly established, as the oldest in the world. India has 22 officially recognized languages, and a huge variety of literature has been produced in these languages over the years. In Indian literature, oral and written forms are both important. Hindu literary traditions dominate a large part of Indian culture. Apart from the Vedas which are a sacred form of knowledge, there are other works such as the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, treatises such as Vaastu Shastra in architecture and town planning, and Arthashastra in political science. Devotional Hindu drama, poetry and songs span the subcontinent. Muslim literary traditions also dominate a large part of Indian culture. In the medieval period, during which time India was mostly under Muslim rule, Indian Muslim literature flourished."

Environmental Issues
There are a lot of issues in India. For example, Air Pollution, Energy Consumption, Carbon Emissions Energy and Environmental Outlook.
Official language
"One of the main political issues in Indian politics is connected to language problem. After India’s independence the government decided that the official language of India will be Hindi. Hindi belongs to the family of Aryan languages. Speakers of other languages, especially the Dravidian languages, saw in this decision an attempt to erase their language cultures (see also Aryans and Dravidians). But the Indian constitution has declared that English can also be used for official purposes. Hindi has at least 13 different dialects and she is the most commonly spoken language in India. But the reason Hindi was chosen to be the official language of India wasn’t because it is the most commonly spoken language in India, but it has connection with India history before it’s independence."

English in India
"Officially English has a status of assistant language, but in fact it is the most important language of India. After Hindi it is the most commonly spoken language in India and probably the most read and written language in India. Indians who know English will always try to show that they know English. English symbolizes in Indians minds, better education, better culture and higher intellect. Indians who know English often mingle it with Indian languages in their conversations. It is also usual among Indians to abruptly move to speak fluent English in the middle of their conversations. English also serves as the communicator among Indians who speak different language. English is very important in some systems – legal, financial, educational, business – in India. Until the beginning of 1990s, foreign movies in India weren’t translated or dubbed in Indian languages, but were broadcast in English and were meant for English speakers only. The reason Indians give such importance to English is related to the fact that India was a British colony (see Europeans in India)."

India friend
I met a India student, Bhutan student and Pakistan student who are in the Kumamoto University in the Japanese education class today. He came to Kumamoto in the beginning of April. He can speak five languages, except Japanese....! When I talked to him I found that American English and India English are totally different! I couldn't understand what he said. But I was interested in how India people speak English!

Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum
"The Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum is located in New Delhi at 1 Safdarjung Road in the home where she lived. The house stands in a lovely garden with mature trees and flowering plants. It contains a collection of photographs documenting her life from her childhood to her days as prime minister. In addition, a number of rooms have been dedicated to her son Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated in May 1991. Her library and living room have been maintained just as she kept them. These rooms are not open to the public. However, they can be viewed through the windows from the gardens."

Sari
"Sari, the traditional garment worn by the Indian women, is a long piece of cloth measuring 4 to 8 meters, which is draped around the entire body to give a look of a single garment. Sari is one garment which could be draped in 17 different ways and just makes a woman look beautiful. It is also said that a sari can make a voluptuous woman look slim and a slim woman look curvy. "

North India - Delhi
"The Union Territory of Delhi is a federal district similar to Washington DC. The capital of India and its' third-largest city, Delhi blends an historic past and a vibrant present. In addition to being the centre of government, Delhi is a major travel gateway. It is the second most widely used entry point into the country, the hub of the north Indian travel network, and a stop on the overland route across Asia.
Present day Delhi is built around the ruins of seven ancient cities. Legend has it that Delhi, then called Indraprastha, was originally founded around 1200 B.C. by the Pandavas, the august heroes of the epic Mahabharata. Old Delhi was the capital of Muslim India between the 17th and 19th centuries, and here you will find many mosques, monuments and forts relating to India's Muslim history. The Imperial city planned for the British by Lutyens is set in parks and shaded avenues. It is a spacious, open city and contains many embassies and government buildings."

India Arts
"The story of Indian art is also the story of the oldest and the most resilient culture on earth. It is seen as an amalgamation of indigenous and outside influences, yet having a unique character and distinctiveness of its own.
Indian art is also an art of social, political and religious influences. It changed and evolved with the evolution of a civilization which was full of remarkable innovations in all areas of artistic expression.
Indian art features spirals and curved lines, vines and tendrils, round-figured goddesses, circular amulets, colored gemstones, arches and domes, haloed deities, crescent moons, and the globe of the sun. Indian sculptures and paintings depict the diversity, colour and spontaneity of this country and are representations of the all-encompassing nature of Indian culture. "

How many people in India?
Emblem of India.
"The National Emblem of India is derived from the time of the Emperor Ashoka. The emblem is a replica of the Lion of Sarnath, near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The Lion Capital was erected in the third century BC by Emperor Ashoka to mark the spot where Buddha first proclaimed his gospel of peace and emanicipation to the four quarters of the universe. The national emblem is thus symbolic of contemporary India’s reaffirmation of it’s ancient commitment to world peace and goodwill. The four lions(one hidden from view ) – symbolising power, courage and confidence- rest on a circular abacus. The abacus is girded by four smaller animals- Guardians of the four directions: The Lion of the North, The Elephant of the East, The Horse of the South and The Bull of the West . The abacus rests on a lotus in full bloom, exemplifying the fountainhead of life and creative inspiration."
The flag of India
"The Indian flag was designed as a symbol of freedom. The late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru called it "a flag not only of freedom for ourselves, but a symbol of freedom to all people." The flag, as you can see, is a horizontal tricolor in equal proportion of deep saffron on the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is 2:3. At the center of the white band, is a wheel in navy blue color that indicates the Dharma Chakra (the wheel of law), in the Sarnath Lion Capital. "
